Joel Nathaniel was born in the city of Gweru, in Zimbabwe. Currently, he lives in the city of Bulawayo, in Zimbabwe. He is a singer-songwriter, author, designer and also does fine art. Joel began singing at the age of four, and featured in one of his friend's songs in 2009.

In 2015, there was a shift, and Joel sensed God's call on his life which marked the beginning of his journey from secular music to gospel music. Joel recorded two gospel songs then, and last year recorded another single. Last year, Joel was nominated twice and won his first award as the Outstanding Contemporary Musician at the Destiny Music Academy Awards 2018. Joel is set to release his first gospel E.P album, titled 'Proudly His' and two books that he has written.
