The Mike Grillo Sound
The Mike Grillo Sound is ever-evolving and in recent months has been created by: Mike Grillo (vocals, guitars, keyboards, percussion and songwriter) – and ably assisted by Soapy G (mentor, advisor and sound technician) – and not forgetting Carl Perkins (yes … Carl Perkins) – but not the famous Sun Records star (sadly, he has long since passed). This Carl Perkins runs Bad Cow Studios on the Isle of Wight – and he is a multi-instrumentalist (guitars, bass, keyboards, drums), producer and sound engineer. When Carl is not helping to create ‘The Mike Grillo Sound’ – or working as a producer on songs for other bands and artists … he teaches guitar – and he has recently formed a Dire Straits tribute band called ‘Brothers-in-Arms’.
Mike has been entertaining audiences with his music in the U.K. since time began – appearing with some notable acts including jazz-pop maestro Georgie Fame, along with 60s/70s hit-maker Alan Price and the late folk-blues supremo John Martyn – along with the effervescent Charlie Dore – famed for her US hit ‘Pilot Of The Airwaves’ – and co-writer of Jimmy Nail’s 90s UK chart-topper ‘Ain’t No Doubt’.
Mike secured his first publishing contract as a songwriter with the newly formed publishing arm of the now legendary Surrey Sound Studios which is famed for producing (among others) the first 3 albums by The Police.
Following this, Mike quickly succeeded in landing a number of other song publishing deals, one of which was with the world-renowned EMI Music Publishing – and during this period, Mike wrote and had songs published with Bruce Woolley, who co-wrote the international million-seller 70’s hit ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’.
Mike continued to write songs and made recordings with the respected producer-engineer Greg Jackman who has worked with (among many others): Kylie Minogue, Barry Manilow, Level 42, Julian Lloyd Webber, Placido Domingo and Frankie Goes To Hollywood.
Throughout the 90s and noughties Mike entertained audiences as a solo artist performing covers in clubs within London and the Home Counties – until he devised and created his one-man music show ‘The Roy Orbison & Del Shannon Story’, which he has since performed in theatres and arts centres all around the U.K.
N.B. ALL songs are available on CD and / or ALL the usual streaming outlets – i.e. Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Amazon etc.
